About the Project
In May 2019, the Russian State Library for Young Adults (Moscow) and the National Library for Children and Young Adults (Seoul, South Korea) are launching the unique project – the exhibition RING NOVA. Russia in Graphic Novels and Animation.
For the first time, the Korean audience will be able to see Russian graphic and animated stories. This exhibition does not have analogues and gives a cultural and historical overview of the Russian world. The main storytellers and witnesses of historical events are graphic novels and animation. Visitors will see a visual narrative about bright and important epochs of the Russian history: Ivan the Terrible time, the war with Napoleon, Soviet propaganda comics, animated stories on World War II, children's comics magazines of the USSR, graphic novels and cartoons by contemporary artists.
The exhibition will consist of four thematic parts: folklore and fairy tales of peoples living in Russia; stories on Russian history; fantasy and science fiction animated stories; humor, adventures, detective stories. In every part, there are the original publications of animated stories, narratives about important historical persons (writers, artists, social and political activists, scientists), videos, cartoons, photographs. The aim of the exhibition is to tell the Korean young people about the brightest and most interesting phenomena of Russian graphic novels and animation. And at the same time – about the great Russian history and culture.
