On November 11—13, 2021, the VI Russian International Scientific and Practical Conference "Izotext" will be held at the RSLYA. The Conference is dedicated to Comics and Visual Studies (American comics, European, Asian, and Russian graphic novels, and similar types of visual narrative).

Since February 2020, "Isotext" is held jointly by the RSLYA and the N.N. Miklukho-Maklay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The curators of the conference are Alexander Kunin, Head of the Center for Graphic Novels of the RSLYA, and Artemiy Plekhanov, Candidate of Historical Sciences, a researcher at the Center for Ethnopolitical Studies of the IEA RAS.

The conference gives the floor to Russian and foreign researchers studying the potential of the graphic narrative in the field of art history, book studies, philosophy, linguistics, pedagogy, socio-cultural anthropology, etc., as well as independent researchers of various fields in the culture of graphic novels and sequential art.

The main goal of the conference is the development and popularization of comics studies in the Russian academic environment. According to the results of the conference, a scientific collection of articles indexed in the RSCI is published.

The first day of the conference will be held online. The next two are in a hybrid format.
